The Rozas Airborne Research Center (CIAR), is a Test Center belonging to the National Institute for Aerospace Technology (INTA) located at the Rozas aerodrome in Castro de Rei (Lugo), in northwestern Spain.
This Centre is a joint initiative of the INTA, the “Xunta de Galicia” through the “Axencia Galega de Innovación” (GAIN) an the “Instituto Galego de Promoción Económica” (IGAPE), and the actual “Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (MICIU).
CIAR is a project which was accomplished in two stages, co-financed with the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) , through the “Programa Operativo Fondo Tecnológico” (POFT) 2007-2013 and the “Programa Operativo Plurirregional de España” (POPE) 2014-2020, with a total budget of 10.000.000 €, where the ERDF co-financed percentage was the 80% (8.000.000 €), while the GAIN and IGAPE contributed with the 20%, (2.000.000 €).
CIAR is a pioneering Test Center, where both the Aerial Research Platforms (PAI) and new developments with unmanned aerial systems or UAS are integrated, since it offers the necessary infrastructure and ground equipment for the development of aircraft, their systems and equipment, and the evaluation of the campaigns to be carried out with them, so that flights can be performed efficiently and safely.
